New Bar on Madison

On Valentine's Day the Bottleneck Lounge opened its door (at 2328 E. Madison) on the site of the late lamented Fargonian Coffeehouse.

The bar is run by Erin Nestor, who lives in the Central Area, and her partner Rebecca Denk (who manages the Seattle Toys in Babeland, now called "Babeland"). I've exchanged phone messages with Erin, but haven't visited the bar or met here yet. From Erin's message:

Bar opens daily (except Mondays) at 4PM: bar phone # is (206) 323-1098.

I eagerly await your reports on the bar.

PS: visited early Saturday evening and met Erin. Bar seems to be everything that the comments say it is. And the food was yummy!

Friendly people - the place was completely packed with friends and relatives of the owners - cheerful atmosphere - only 3 beers on tap, but the combination of Budweiser, imported Stella Artois pilsner, and Manny's Pale Ale from a Georgetown submini-microbrewery should cover a wide range of tastes. The bar menu is a fanciful collection of drinks named for dogs owned by friends and family. And I've never sat on a COMFORTABLE bar stool before!

We drove by on Friday night because we heard from friends that a new fun bar opened up in our neighborhood. Nice owners and great atmosphere. We'd go back in a heart beat. Its refreshing to see the new growth in the neighborhood.

We stopped by the Bottleneck Lounge on Valentine's Day. All our friends had been talking about this new bar and we had to check it out. man-oh-man, that place is great. They have great beer, the Hair of the Dog drink special is such a unique idea. Everyone that was there, including the bartender were very friendly and made me feel welcome. Three cheers for the Bottleneck Lounge and to it's future success.

A neighbor writes:

Funny you mention this because my partner and I happen to be driving by the new
place last night and decided to stop in and check it out. Its a cute little neighborhood
bar with very nice owners/employees. We stayed for a few drinks and really enjoyed
ourselves. Not sure if it was the atmosphere or just the fact that we were able
to be in our neighborhoon and actually enjoy a bar.

2 thumbs up! This is a great step for our neighborhood.

I hear they feature South African wine - anyone tried their wine and care to comment?

Just got back from a great St. Paddy's Day afternoon at the Bottleneck. What a GREAT vibe...really cool people (Erin, the owner; Steve, the bartender; the friendly fellow drinkers...).

I very much enjoyed this place and I bet it does very well because it understands a great bar is about the attitude of the servers and then that attracts cool people and voila! You have a great bar.

The hummus plate (with the optional salami) is excellent.

And get this -- a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Champagne for $58 bucks!!!

Hooray!
